With over 100 million daily users, Snapchat is one of the most popular photo-sharing apps around. A huge draw to the app is undeniably the development of Geofilters. Geofilters allow users share their general location using pre-made illustrated templates.
Originally designed by Snapchat, the company has recently opened its doors to the public to contribute to creating their own Geofilters. Self-created Geofilters are wildly popular for private events such as birthdays and weddings, or creating custom location Geofilters for neighborhoods and towns.
The KAKE team has put together a step-by-step breakdown to show you how you can create your very own Geofilter!
Step 1 : Open Adobe Illustrator and create a new art board sized at 1080 pixels X 1920 pixels in RGB mode. You can download the KAKE Snapchat Geofilter-sized Illustrator file here.
Step Two : Place or draw your image on the art board. Be sure to keep your images simple and refrain from using company logos, as they're currently not permitted for use on Snapchat Geofilters.
Step Three : Once your happy with your illustration, export your image for Snapchat.
Click on File > Save for Web...> Preset Menu > Name > choose PNG-8 Dithered > Save > name your image and hit Save.
Step Four : Next go to the Snapchat submission page found at snapchat.com/geofilters/submit.html
Step Five : Enter the location you'd like to place your Geofilter, hit enter.
Step Six : Click on the large plus icon on the right side of the webpage to upload your newly saved image.
